Favorite Bond girls are a matter of personal taste. There are all kinds to choose from, and different temperaments. I'd like to think I prefer the more self-reliant ones to the simpering "oh please rescue me" kind, but even then the line blurs around a certain kind of sexy. So here goes: my personal top nine Bond girls.

1. Carole Bouquet, "Melina Havelock," For Your Eyes Only (1981)There's nothing quite like a French assassin with hair like that... and am I mistaken or are her eyes green? All that, plus Ms. Bouquet had already been in Luis Bunuel's That Obscure Object of Desire (1977), making her smart and gorgeous at the same time.

2. Halle Berry, "Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson," Die Another Day (2002)The costume designer who matched up Berry with an orange bathing suit gets some credit too, but her entrance in this movie pays homage to, and beats out, Ms. Andress in Dr. No.

3. Honor Blackman, "Pussy Galore," Goldfinger (1964)"I must be dreaming!"

4. Lois Chiles, "Dr. Holly Goodhead," Moonraker (1979)Bond: "Where did you learn to fight like that? NASA?" Chiles: "No... Vassar."

5. Britt Ekland, "Mary Goodnight," The Man with the Golden Gun (1975)Good night and sweet dreams...

6. Ursula Andress, "Honey Ryder," Dr. No (1962)One of the great screen entrances of all time, simply emerging, wet and in a bikini, from the ocean...

7. Diana Rigg, "Teresa di Vicenzo," On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)Just by virtue of the fact that she was Emma Peel on "The Avengers" (1961-1969) and because she's so cool.

Any thoughts?
