Facing Spielberg

We're going to be spending a lot of time with the work of Steven Spielberg next week, including updating our "Now I've Seen Everything" articles and a review of Lincoln, but, in the meantime, we have this highly illustrative video essay by Kevin B. Lee about a Spielberg hallmark that has become something of a cliche...the galloping close-up of a face. Some of his examples are a bit of a stretch, and he eliminates an essential one--the simultaneous "truck-in"/"zoom-out" of Sherriff Brody in Jaws--but, for the most part, it's a fine cataloging of a crucial Spielberg strategem.

 * Or is it a "zoom-in"/"truck-out"?  I'm so confused.
